The Difference Between Success and Failure Comes Down to Who you Surround Yourself With

The journey into me taking a deep dive into REALLY understanding what intuition is was after I wrote my first book, “Fail Fast. Succeed Faster.”

The premise of this book is that if you were to learn from the failures of others, then, theoretically, you should be able to succeed faster, as long as you don’t repeat the mistakes made by others.

After publishing the book, I got a chance to travel across North America to speak to tens of thousands of people to share my thoughts on learning from failure.

But there was always one consistent question that was asked at each and every event I spoke at:

“Sunil, can you tell me what is the ONE thing that I can do to be successful?”

At this point, I would almost roll my eyes because I didn’t come with a tiny cue card or a one-page PDF sheet in hand.

I had written a huge 400-page book!

But “something” kept urging me to go back to the audio recordings from the close to 300 people I had interviewed for the book.

I now know that this “something” was my intuition!

And so, I did.

When I started listening to the recordings, I wanted to focus my attention on what the difference was between those who failed and those who were able to overcome that failure.

And the “diamond in the rough” was staring right at me.

Those who ended up failing ignored their intuition to listen to the advice of others, and those who were able to turn that situation around trusted their intuition to make the right decisions on their own.

This made complete sense to me because this is exactly what had happened in my life.

When I was 5 years old, my father told me that he wouldn’t buy me video games because they were too expensive.

Yet, this voice told me to go door to door to raise money.

And so I ignored my father’s “advice” and listened to that voice, which I now know was my intuition, and went door-to-door, raising over $200 with $100 going to my father to buy the video games, and the other $100 going to a charity that my school was involved with, which made me feel REALLY good.

But when I looked back to three of the biggest failures I had in my life, they all happened because I paid way too much attention to the wants and advice from others:

  • listening to my father to go into a career that was not meant for me
  • blindly trusting a client that left me penniless
  • others who influenced me to put off meeting a good friend who desperately needed advice that resulted in her being shot and killed.

This is when I REALLY needed to take a deeper dive into understanding intuition, leaving me with a number of burning questions:

  • What is this thing called intuition?
  • How does it help you filter your relationships to make sure that you only surround yourself with those who move your life forward?
  • Why do you hang onto relationships that end up with you ignoring your intuition?
  • How can I stop this from happening to you and everyone else?

These questions kickstarted my quest into finding out how to use your intuition to leave behind relationships that hold you back from your success, starting with what the science showed.

Interestingly, this journey started to attract a number of amazing relationships with those who not only encouraged me to keep going, but they helped me out by sharing their experiences as podcast guests, including Michael Brody Waite, Jill McAbe, Mike Keenan, Marley Jaxx, Stefan Georgi, Stephen Somers and Dr. Robb Kelly
